I can't help it...I LOVE it!

I have an obsession with coca cola! I have to stop though. I have to lose 10 lbs. for Scale Back Alabama like, this week! I'm on my 5th bottle of water this morning (and it's now 11:15). I know that if I stop drinking them, I can at least lose 5 lbs. in a week b/c I'm literally consuming probably an extra 800 calories a day, give or take, in coke! And for those of you who like coke, you know that there is no comparison, and don't even think about giving me a diet coke! lol...I always have a regular coke in my hand...

Have any of you had a soda problem? If so, how did you stop drinking so much? Did you stop cold turkey? Did you limit yourself to just one or two a day? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

And please, don't laugh too hard at my plea :o)

***Update - Monday I drank 8 bottles of water and had NO cokes or sweet tea! One day down and a lifetime to go!

I started limiting myself by making myself drink a bottle of water for every coke I drank. I discovered that there is no way I can drink that much liquid in one day...period!! But, since caffiene dehydrates you, you really do need to drink your 64 oz of water a day, plus the same amount of water as coke you drink (for example...64 oz plus 5 12 oz cokes plus 5 12 oz bottles of water ...A LOT OF LIQUID! )...anyway...now I limit myself to one a day...and one glass of sweet tea a day (unless it's decaf of course :) That's what works for me...one coke a day won't kill you! Good luck w/ scale back!

I quit cold turkey when I was pregnant... I didn't have any crazy withdrawals or anything. I stuck to it during my first trimester, which was what I was most wanting to do. During my 2nd trimester I cheated every now and then and would limit myself to 1/2 a can (they were free at work) every other day. Third trimester- it got worse, I craved the things, but I still tried to stick to the 1/2 can thing. Now with nursing, I'm still careful but cheat every now and then. Pretty much if I drink a coke (or tea) I make myself drink an extra water to make up for it. My weakness is Dr. Pepper... and I don't care a thing for anything diet!

I'm right there with you! I've been trying to limit my intake with being pregnant, but that's one of the only things I can drink and it tastes good to me. I've started buying the small "100 calorie" cans that they sell at Publix and limit myself to 1 a day. The rest of the time I try to drink only water with an occasional glass of apple juice or sweet tea.

Good luck!

Aight...I am just like you. COKE IS DA BOMB! I also really like cherry pepsi/coke. My mom buys diet cherry pepsi and I promise you can't tell it's diet. There is enough cherry in it that I actually prefer it over regular. Big statement to make! Try that and see how you like it! Or get the individual drink mixes for water. They are awesome and also help you get that water in!

I have an addition to sweet tea. I tried drinking it every other day for a week then every three days and so on until I quit. I have started back but I don't drink it everyday. I try to drink more water to keep me from wanting more tea. Good luck.

When I left the hospital, I was addicted to the morphine cocktail they had given me every three hours 24/7 for 77 days AND classic coke. Apparently, it was the only drink that would stay on my tummy. And it has been.the.hardest.habit.to.break!!!
Reader's Digest had an article a few years back stating that the FDA has to watch them carefully as any addition to the syrup will classify it as an illegal drug :/ that's why it's so hard to give it up :) but like you, I know I'd lose pounds if I'd let them go. And I beat you, it's normal for me to have at least two - six a day ://///

When I found out I was pregnant, I stopped all caffeinated sodas (I usually drank a lot of soda every day) and for about 10 days I had the worst headaches due to caffeine withdrawal.

Now I haven't had caffeine for about 8 weeks or so. Hard to do but even doing it gradually can make such a big difference in your life. This is no substitution for coke but I have root beer to help when I have that urge for a coke.
