Ok - so I kind of went off of subject...anyway, we are looking for something (somewhat low cost) to do for our anniversary. We didn't get to spend out anniversary together last year, so we really wanted to make this one memorable. We are both off on Friday and the following Monday, making it a 4 day weekend. We had hoped to go to the beach, but things didn't work out, then we planned to go to a state park, but that didn't work out either. We have decided to just take small "day" vacations. We want to do something nice on Friday & Saturday. We are thinking about going out to eat and maybe see a movie on Friday, so any suggestions on where to eat would be greatly appreciated! I was thinking Japanese, but I would love to go somewhere new! Preferably within the limits of the Birmingham area, but a nice seafood restaurant (and when I say nice, I don't mean that we have to get dressed up!) close to the beach, or Fairhope area - or a place in North Alabama?? We really don't care where you send us, as long as it's in Alabama :o) Josh and I both share one specific thing in common...we LOVE road trips!! We could get in the car and just drive and drive and drive...we play games while driving, or just turn up the radio and sing at the top of our lungs! Good times! Ok, so all of the sudden I have totally changed our plans - Josh, I hope you are ok with this, and I think you will be!
My blog friends - you have a challenge! Oh, this is going to be so much fun!!!!! YOU are going to decide where we go!! It can be a place that you have been to before, or just somewhere that you have wanted to go ***Now I know that there isn't a whole lot to do in Alabama, but we have some neat small towns that would love to see some tourists ;o) Ok, so since we're off on Friday, plan out our day! Comment with all of your ideas, and we'll put them in another post, and then everyone can vote. OHH...and we'll try to make the trip as frugal as possible! Maybe we can take a picnic lunch or something?! We can EXPLORE ALABAMA ON A BUDGET! I'm so excited about this!! Oh, and let's come up with a name for this little adventure - something that will fit the two goofballs that you are sending on this trip!
The adventure will need to allow us to come back home in the same day, but at what time is not an issue. Now, would we LOVE to spend the night somewhere?? ABSOLUTELY, without a doubt! I know we both would like to just get away, and hopefully we'll be able to at some point this year, but we can't afford to pay for a room somewhere right now. So keep that in mind as well :o)
Alright, so leave a comment with your ideas for Friday AND Saturday, and we'll go from there. We will document everything about our road trip with pictures and journaling, and then give you a great post for when we return!
Let the ideas begin...NOW!

This is not the most frugal suggestion, and you may have already been here, but P.F. Chang's is our favorite restaurant in Birmingham. The best thing on the menu is the sea bass...yum!
We actually have a gift card, so it would be FREE! Thanks Kristen :o)
I agree with PF Chang's! It's awesome! Then you could go to the Cheesecake Factory for dessert! Yum! (That could be Friday) For Saturday, if you would be willing to go to Mobile...or you could just not go to what I suggested for Friday and go to Mobile for Saturday....I totally recommend Felix's Fish Camp http://www.felixsfishcamp.com/ The food and atmosphere is AWESOME! If you guys like history and have never been, the USS Alabama is a fun and frugal field trip! It's only $12/ person... http://www.ussalabama.com/visitor_info.php
We used to live in Mobile and I miss the fresh seafood, I can honestly tell you that Felix's has some of the best grouper on the gulf coast! Have fun! (Go @ sunset for Felix's! It's beautiful!)
I forgot to say that if you order the fresh catch, if it's Grouper, you have to get the Almondine variety of preparation! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
PF Changs is good. here are a few things that is happening around where you live. Spring Antiques in the Garden at Petals from the Past in Jemsion, this is really nice, Mt.Laurels Spring Festival and farmers market, Ozan Winery and Vizzin Farms Winery is close and they have nice food and wine tasting. Vizzin Farms Winery has wine and Jazz on Saturdays might be something you want to check out. I am not sure of the price. Ozans has a wine tour and a train ride on saturdays, I think this is like 25.00 a person. There is also Ruffner's mountain Nature Center in birmingham, it is free, it has hiking trails and just nature in general. This is what I would do. I would get up early on Friday and have a nice breakfast. Ride down to Petals of the Past and enjoy the antiques, flowers and food. Everything is real nice and there is a lot of picture taken opportunies. Then I would come home and plan a nice spaghetti supper, and use the fine china and light candles. Then put on your favorite music or your favorite movie and just enjoy each other. DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. On saturday I would get up enjoy a nice breakfast, head out to Mt. Laurels spring festival or head down to alabama a-day game, I know Josh loves alabama football. head your way back up 459 and enjoy a nice meal at pf changs and end the night with a nice cup of coffee and what ever else may come to mind. not much money spent but a fun packed weeked to remember.
I don't know if you have ever been up to Cullman much or not but there is a really nice steak restaurant up there called "All Steak". It is at the top of this big building and you don't have to get too dressed up. There is also a park up there that is really neat that you could tour and then a little pond you could walk around. Hope yall have a fun weekend either way
I've never had PF Changs but have heard it is great. I was going to suggest the Melting Pot... It can be a little pricey but is also very good. You could do a movie-thon at the $1 theatre. Magnolia festival is here in Gardendale next Saturday. Picnic lunch somewhere. If you were open to leaving the state I highly suggest the Georgia Aquarium. It is great! (but would be less crowded on Friday or Monday than on the weekend) Have fun celebrating!!
