Urg...Nothing irks me more than children being called "accidents"! Children are a gift, a precious one, and to someone who has difficulty having one of those "accident's", it seems to hurt me more than someone with a child to hear that. I know that there are several of you out there who may feel the same way, and some may think that I'm just venting because I'm bitter about not having a child to call an "accident".
When someone says that around me, I quickly turn that word, accident, into SURPRISE! So you didn't expect this, then let's just say you were surprised. That child is not an accident. Granted the first meaning in the dictionary for that word is "an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance", but that precious gift is not an accident.
For those of you with children, be thankful for your "planned" or "surprise" gift.

I have always thought to use that phrase sure did let everyone know how you felt about the child! It's a pet peeve of mine also.
I totally agree with you my sweet wife. It makes me want to haul-off and slap the person says "accident".
Love this post! you are so right! every child is a gift with a purpose... one of the teens at our church got pregnant and when she was 32 weeks she was in a bad car crash... the baby saved her life by taking all the impact instead of her organs. Now tell me that baby was an accident! God knew what he was doing and that baby girl was NOT an accident :)
you are so right on it. After trying so hard and 3 miscarriages and 15 years into our marriage - I was bless with my little boy - who is now seven and almost as tall as I am. Every child is a blessing.
Totally, absolutely 100% agree with you. They are "surprise blessings".
When an OL friend (who I have met IRL) got pg with her 3 after infertility and pregnancy issues, she hated that I referred to the baby as a surprise and not an accident.

I totally agree with you. They are never "accidents". You know how it happens so you know it isn't an "accident". Children are truly a blessing and I think it should be called "surprise" too. People should be thankful for children.

I am sooo, so sorry. We seem to have a lot of the same friends. I had such a hard time getting pregnant with my first. And then when I did, it was twins and I lost one. My second one was a surprise from God. My guess is because we had so many tears having our first daughter. If you ever want hope, or want to talk - check out my page and contact me.
