This is where those of you who have been there, done that, come in. Here is a list of doctors in the Birmingham area that have over time, been suggested to me:
- Dr. Bates
- Dr. Blackwell
- Dr. Houserman
- Dr. Steinkamph
If you have had any experience with any of these doctors, good or bad, I would love it if you would share with me. You don't have to leave a comment here if you don't want to, but you can email me at jones41704@bellsouth.net. I would greatly appreciate any feedback!
If we are going to do the 3rd and final IUI, I would need to start Clomid in the next couple of days. I just wish the right decision was more clear...
Thanks guys!! Next blog, I'll tell you about my new adventure :)

I am not sure where you currently go but I highly recommend the ART clinic at Brookwood. I absolutely love the DR's and nurses there. I had a friend how saw Dr. Houserman and loved her. I see Dr. Honea. She is so kind and the hubs loves her too, which I think is important. I originally went to a few doctors at St. Vincents and had a horrible experience.
Feel free to email me anytime if you have any questions. (allyson.blackwood@gmail.com)
I would try the last IUI and then go to Brookwood. I didn't like Dr. Stekamp (?) at Alabama Fertility Specialist. I've heard lots of great things about the ART clinic.
I'm not trying to push you one way or the other. Most clinics will not redo tests that have already been performed, so you shouldn't have a problem there. Bates and Blackwell work in the same office. Bates usually deals with IVF and Blackwell with other inferitilty and such problems, but they do work together. I never did use the ART clinic, but know of people who love it there as well. Don't waste this cycle. Maybe you could try where you're at one more time and if it doesn't work schedule an appt. elsewhere so you won't miss the next cycle either.
Good luck with your decision!
I would HIHGHLY recommend the ART center they don't play around. I saw Dr. Houserman and loved loved her. Also the staff was great they become family, seriously. I have PCOS and went round and round about not being on clomid with my old doc and I walked into ART and they told me what I had and, had a ultimate plan made the next day. She explained also, that a person with PCOS should never of been on Clomid, it truly doesn't work for PCOS. To tell you how much I loved that place is I cried like a baby when I had to go to my regular OB. They took great care of me. Hope that helps you along your journey.
